CHRISTIANIZING THE WORLD? (2)

이 잡지의 나의 이전 글에서, 나는 많은 개혁주의 사람들이 참여하는 프로젝트인, 세상을 기독교화 하려는 프로젝트에 대하여 설명하였습니다.

In my previous article in this magazine, I described the project of Christianizing the world—a project in which many Reformed people are engaged.

그러나 이러한 프로젝트에 참여한 사람들은 개혁주의 사람들만이 아닙니다.

It is, however, not only Reformed people who have taken on this project.

미국의 많은 저명한 복음주의자들도 동참하였습니다.

Many prominent evangelicals in the United States have also signed on.

그러나 개신개혁주의 젊은이들은 참여에 대한 요청에 직면하여야 했고, 이러한 요청을 거절하였을 때, 흔히 기독개혁주의 학교에서, 세상을 도피한다는 비난에 직면하여야 했습니다.

But Protestant Reformed young people are confronted with the call to participate, and with the accusation of “world-flight,”if they decline the call, usually at Christian Reformed colleges.

개신개혁주의 젊은이들 쪽에서는- 그리고 참된 개혁주의이거나, 그렇게 되기를 결정한 젊은이들 쪽에서는, 이러한 요청과 비난에 대하여 어떻게 반응하여야 하겠습니까?

What should the response to this call and accusation be on the part of Protestant Reformed young people—and also on the part of all young people who are and are determined to be truly Reformed?

그들(젊은이들)은 이러한 요청을 거절하여야 합니다.

They must refuse the call.

그들(젊은이들)은, 세상을 기독교화 하는 것을 거부한 것으로 인하여 세상을 도피하는 죄로 규정하는 이들의 비난에 대하여 단호히 대응해야 합니다.

They must repudiate the accusation that by refusing to Christianize the world they make themselves guilty of world-flight.

세상을 기독교화 하려고 시도하는 전체 프로젝트는 비성경적이고, 개혁주의가 아니며, 비논리적이며, 더군다나 실패할 수밖에 없습니다.

The entire project of attempting to Christianize the world is unbiblical, unreformed, illegitimate, and doomed to failure.

이것은 아브라함 카이퍼, 헤르만 바빙크, 그리고 그의 동시대의 모든 옹호자들의 환상으로부터의 도피입니다.

It is the flight of the fancy of Abraham Kuyper, Herman Bavinck, and all its contemporary advocates.

세상을 기독교화 하는 것은 하나님으로부터 온 소명이 아닙니다.

Christianizing the world is not a calling from God.

성경 어디에도, 명확하게 혹은 선과 필요에 의한 추론에서 건, 하나님께서는 그의 교회 혹은 교회의 구성원들에게 그리스도인의 유행을 쫓아서, 세상에 외적으로 영향을 주라고 요청하지는 않습니다.

Nowhere in Scripture, whether explicitly or by good and necessary consequence, does God call his church or the members of the church to influence the world outwardly, after a Christian fashion.

이 세상에 대한 그리스도인의 소명은 육체적으로 그 안에 있으라는 것이지, 영적으로나 윤리적으로 그 자체가 되라는 것은 아닙니다.(요17:14-16)

The Christian’s calling regarding the world is to be in it, physically, but not of it, spiritually and ethically (John 17: 14–16).

세상을 기독교화 하는데 있어서, 불신의 세계, 믿지 않는 남녀와 연합함으로서, 그리스도인은 자신을 이 세상의 존재로서의 입장에 있게 합니다.

By joining with the world of ungodly, unbelieving men and women, in Christianizing the world, the Christian puts himself in the position of being of the world.

그는 이제 거대한 영적 프로젝트, 즉 다름 아닌 세상을 기독교화 하는 프로젝트 안에서, 세상과 하나입니다.

He is now one with the world in a great, spiritual project: nothing less than Christianizing the world.

그는 자신을 세상적 사고에 열어 놓습니다.

He opens himself up to the world’s thinking.

그는 일을 하는 세상의 방식에 참여합니다.

He is party to the world’s way of doing things.

이러한 협력으로 인해서, 그는 자신이 불신자인 남녀들과 함께 하나님의 나라의 모양을 만들어가는 것으로 생각하면서, 자신이 그들과 친밀한 관계에 있다는 것을 발견하게 됩니다.

In this cooperation, he finds himself fellowshipping with ungodly men and women as together they supposedly build a form of the kingdom of God.

세상의 악마화

Demonizing of the World

성경에서는, 이 세상에 대한 하나님의 계획은 세상이 기독교화 되는 것이 아니라, 점차적으로 악마화, 즉 하나님 없이 그리스도인를 대적하여 간다는 것에 대하여 분명히 말하고있습니다.

Scripture clearly reveals that God’s plan for the world is not that it becomes Christianized, but that it becomes increasingly demonized, that is, ungodly and antichristian (Matt. 24).

종말 바로 전에는, 우리가 살고 있는 바로 그 날에, 어리석은 개혁주의 신학자들과 대학 교수들이 세상의 기독교화를 외치는 바로 그 날에, 세상의 모든 국가들은 짐승, 적그리스도의 나라가 될 것입니다. (계13; 계 17)

Shortly before the end, in the very days in which we are living, in the very days in which foolish Reformed theologians and college professors are clamoring for the Christianizing of the world, all the nations of the world become the kingdom of the beast, Antichrist (Rev. 13; Rev. 17).

내부적으로는, 그들의 마음이 거듭나지 않았기에, 인류의 대다수가 하나님을 대적하며, 그리스도를 대적하며, 교회를 대적하며, 거룩을 대적합니다.

Inwardly, in their unregenerated hearts, the vast majority of the human race are anti-God, anti-Christ, anti-church, and anti-holiness.

그들이 하나님을 미워하는 것은 극도로 증가될 것입니다.

Their hatred of God develops to the extreme.

그들의 사악한 마음을 따라서 그들은 자신들의 외적인 사회적 삶, 자신들의 문화의 틀을 만들어나갈 것입니다.

In accordance with their wicked hearts, they frame their outward, societal life, their culture.

거듭나지 않고, 타락한 마음을 가지 남녀들이 기독교의 외적인 허식 안에서 약간의 기쁨을 가질 수 있다는 생각과, 그리스도로 인하여 영향을 받은 나라를 세우려고 그리스도인과 협력하여 일하려는 생각은 겉으로 보아도 허튼소리입니다.

The idea that men and women with unregenerated, depraved hearts can have some delight even in an outward veneer of Christianity and will work in cooperation with Christians to erect a kingdom influenced by Christ is nonsense on the face of it.

마음이 없다는 것이 삶의 문제의 핵심입니다.

Out of the heart are the issues of life.

거룩하지 않은 마음들은 기독교를 철저하게 미워합니다.

Unholy hearts hate Christianity, root and branch.

하나님을 미워하는 마음들은 하나님을 미워할 나라를 세웁니다.

Hearts that hate God build kingdoms of hatred for God.

국가와 국제적 생활에서 모든 기독교의 외형은 최근 들어 없어졌습니다.

Every semblance of Christianity in national and international life is effaced in these last days.

현대 이교도들의 문화의 모든 면은 하나님과 그의 거룩하심을 미워하는 것을 표현하고 있습니다.

Every aspect of the culture of the modern heathen expresses their hatred of God and of his holiness.

그들의 정책은 사람을 찬양하며, 하나님과 그의 주권으로부터 자유 한 사람을 위하여 통치를 합니다.

Their politics exalts Man and governs on behalf of Man liberated from God and now sovereign.

법원과 의회의 법들은 의도적으로 하나님의 법을 발밑으로 짓밟습니다.

The laws of the courts and congresses deliberately trample God’s laws underfoot.

이렇게 최근 들어 국가에서 반기독교적으로 증가 되고 있는 경멸의 대상이 되는 하나님의 법은 성경에 있는 그의 법 뿐만이 아니라 본성에서의 그의 법도 그렇습니다.

So developed is the anti-Christianity of the nations in the last days that the laws of God that are held in contempt are not only his laws in Scripture, but also his laws in nature.

악마화되어가고 있는 (미국의) 주들은 남성과 여성의 동성 간의 결혼을 합법화 시키고 있습니다.(롬1:24-28)

The demonized State legislates sodomite and lesbian “marriages”(Rom. 1: 24–28).

이들의 교육 체계는 하나님의 위대하신 창조 사역을 경멸하며, 모든 것의 기원을 진화를 통하여 일어나는 이해할 수 없는 우연으로 돌리고 있습니다.

Their educational system despises God’s great work of creation, ascribing the origin of all things to blind chance operating through evolution.

그러므로 사람이, 창조와 섭리의 하나님을 대신하여, 모든 것의 목표로서 신격화 되어가고 있습니다.

Thus, Man is deified as the goal of all things, rather than the God of creation and providence.

자신들의 여흥을  죄의 수치 가운데서도, 영화, 텔레비전, 비디오, 그리고 인터넷으로 영화롭게 하는 것에는: 성적인 문란과 사악함; 이유 없는 폭력; 선정적인 음악; 인간 삶의 목적으로서의 물질적 부와 물리적 쾌감이 있습니다.

Their entertainment glories in the shame of sin, movies, television, videos, and the internet: sexual promiscuity and perversity; gratuitous violence; sensual music; material wealth and physical pleasures as the end of human life.

예수 그리스도가 가르쳐주신 하나님의 뜻보다는, 인간 자신의 욕망이 옳음의 표준이 되었습니다.

Man’s own lusts are the standard of the right and the good, rather than the will of God as taught by Jesus Christ.

세상의 완고해짐

Hardening of the World

세상에서의 이러한 모든 죄의 발달은 하나님의 세상에 대한 진노의 심판 아래에서 이루어지고 있는데, 이는 "그들이 하나님을 알았을 때에... 그를 하나님으로 영화롭게도 아니하였고, 감사치도 아니하였다"는 것입니다.

And all of this development of sin in the world takes place under the wrathful judgment of God on the world, which “when they knew God…glorified him not as God, neither were thankful.”

하나님께서는 그들을 불결한 상태로 내어버려 두셨으며; 그들을 악한 영향 하에 두셨으며;  하나님께서는 그들을 타락한 마음 상태로 두었습니다.(롬1:21-32)

God gives them up to uncleanness; God gives them up unto vile affections; God gives them over to a reprobate mind (Rom. 1: 21–32).

세상을 기독교화 하고자 하는 꿈은 하나님의 일반은혜에 의하여 세상의 선한 발달을 제시하지만, 성경에서는 세상은 하나님의 심판 아래에서 사단의 나라로서 발달되리라는 것을 가르치고 있습니다.

Whereas the dream of Christianizing the world proposes the world’s good development by a common grace of God, the Bible teaches that the world develops as the kingdom of Satan under the judgment of God.

세상을 기독교화 하고자 하는 지지자들은 이 세상에 대한 하나님의 계획과 충돌이 되는 프로젝트를 알면서도 하는 것입니다.

The advocates of Christianizing the world knowingly work at a project that conflicts with God’s plan for the world.

하나님께서는 이 세상의 기독교화를 의도하시지는 않으십니다.

God does not intend the Christianizing of the world.

그러므로 이들의 프로젝트는 어리석은 것입니다.

Their project, therefore, is foolish.

그러나 문제는 심각합니다.

But matters are worse.

세상을 기독교화 하고자 하는 이들은 자신들이 하나님을 대적하게합니다.

The advocates of Christianizing the world pit themselves against God.

심판하심의 위엄으로서, 하나님께서는 세상을 고의적인 불경건 안에서 완악하게 하심으로서, 세상은 죄 가운데 발달되어, 사악함의 컵을 채우게 됩니다.

In his awful but just judgment, God is at work hardening the world in its willful ungodliness, so that the world develops in sin, filling the cup of its iniquity.

문화 칼빈주의자들은 하나님의 이러한 일에 대항하여, 세상을 기독교화 하려고 합니다.

The cultural Calvinists oppose this work of God, attempting to Christianize the world.

이들의 프로젝트는 하나님에 대한 저항입니다.

Their project is resistance to God.

서기 2013년에 모두에게 분명히 드러났듯이, 화란에서의 아브라함 카이퍼와 북미에서의 기독개혁교회(CRC)가 우선 자신들의 나라를 기독교화하고 그 다음은 세계를 기독교화 하려는 프로젝트가 완전히 실패하였습니다.

As is evident to all in AD 2013, the project of Abraham Kuyper in the Netherlands and of the Christian Reformed Church in North America over the past one hundred years to Christianize first their nations and then the world has been a colossal failure.

그러나 세상을 기독교화 하려는 프로젝트가 효과가 없었던 것은 아닙니다: 화란에서의 카이퍼의 개혁교회와 기독교개혁교회는 완전히 세계화되었읍니다.

But the project of Christianizing the world has not been without its effect: Both Kuyper’s Reformed Churches in the Netherlands and the Christian Reformed Church have become thoroughly worldly.

세상을 기독교화 하기 위하여, 하나님의 일반은혜로 의도되는, 신을 받아들이지 않는 세상과 협력하는 헛된 사업은 실제로 세상을 기독교로 만들지 못합니다.

The vain enterprise of cooperating with the world of the ungodly, purportedly by a common grace of God, in order to Christianize the world does not, in fact, make the world Christian.

그러나 교회와 이에 소속된 학교들은 세계적으로 만들었습니다.

But it does make the church and its schools worldly.

카이퍼의 교회들은 잘못된 교회- "하나님이 없다"(시14:1을 보라)고 가르치는 사역자들이 있는 교회- 의 일부가 되었습니다.

The churches of Kuyper have become part of a false church—a church that has ministers who preach, “No God!”(see Psalm 14: 1).

기독교개혁교회(CRC)에 관하여는, 사악한 세계에 열려있으며, 하나님의 영광스러우신 작품들과 거룩함에 대한 세상의 가장 심각한 공격에 대하여 관대한데 이는, 진화와 성경이 영감으로 쓰여진 것- 특히 창1-11에 관하여- 을 부인하며, 보편적 구원를 내포하는 하나님의 우주적 사랑과, 여성신장운동, 특히 이혼과 재혼을 용인하는 성적인 문란함과, 최소한 한 군데 소속 대학에서는 남녀 동성애라는 성적인 비행을 조장하며, 간통의 전희로서의 춤에 대한 세속적 행위를 승인하는 것입니다.

As for the Christian Reformed Church, it is open to the wicked world and tolerant of the world’s most grievous attacks on God’s glorious works and holiness: evolution and the denial of the inspiration of Scripture, particularly with regard to Genesis 1–11; a universal love of God, implying universal salvation; feminism; sexual promiscuity, particularly in the sanction of divorce and remarriage; promotion in at least one of its colleges of the sexual perversity of sodomy and lesbianism; approval of the very worldly behavior of dancing—the foreplay to fornication.

참된 교회와 그리스도인은, 개신개혁 젊은이를 포함하여, 세상을, 특히 이러한 마지막 날에는, 자신들의 적으로 보아야 합니다.

The true church and the Christian, including the Protestant Reformed young person, must view the world as their enemy, especially in these last days.

그들은 이것으로부터 영적으로 분리되어야 하며, 그렇게 하여서 이것을 싫어하여야 하며, 그것과 공공의 목적을 만드는 것을 거절하여야 합니다.

From it, they must separate spiritually, so that they hate it and refuse to make common cause with it.

세상을 기독교화 하고자 하는 지지자들의 죄는, 그들이 하나님의 백성을 하나님을 인정하지 않는 세상과 사단을 신으로 섬기는 세상과 친목을 도모하며 협력한다는 것입니다.(고후4:4)

It is the sin of the proponents of the Christianizing of the world that they promote the friendship and cooperation of God’s people with the world of the ungodly, the world that has Satan as its god (2 Cor. 4: 4).

하나님을 인정하지 않는 사람들의 세상과 밀접하게 일하는 것은, 실제에 있어서의 일로서, 아브라함 카이퍼 자신이 인정한 것과 같이, 적그리스도의 나라를 세우는 것으로서, 개혁주의 젊은이들은 세상에 삼킨 바 되고 파괴될 것입니다.

Working closely with the world of ungodly men and women, in a work that is in reality, as Abraham Kuyper himself acknowledged, the building of the kingdom of Antichrist, Reformed young men and young women are swallowed up by the world and destroyed.

이들은, 선한 법률에 관하여, 기원에 관하여, 합법적인 유흥에 관하여, 지상적 삶의 목표에 관하여, 세상의 사고방식을 받아들입니다.

They adopt the world’s thinking—about good laws, about origins, about legitimate entertainment, about the goal of earthly life.

만약에 교회가 완전히 개혁된다면, 이들은 교회를 떠납니다.

They forsake the church, if the church is at all Reformed.

이들은 교회를 너무 좁으며, 너무 구식이며, 지독히 편협 되었다고 여기게됩니다.

They come to regard the church as too narrow, too old-fashioned, even bigoted.

이들은 불신자들과 결혼합니다.

They marry unbelievers.

이들은 세상의 문화와 세상적 삶의 방식에 유혹 되어 길을 잃어버립니다.

They are seduced by and lost to the world’s culture, the world’s way of life.

이것은 세상의 기독교화라는 거대하고, 매력적인 프로젝트로 자신들의 젊은이들을 세상에 보낸 개혁교회의 젊은이들에게 일어나고 있는 것입니다.

This is happening to the young people of the Reformed churches that send their youth into the world in the great, glamorous project of Christianizing the world.

그리고 이들의 사역자들과 대학의 교수들은 이들의 정신을 비난하면서 답변할 것입니다.

And their ministers and college professors are to blame—and will answer for their souls.

평범하지 않은 진노

Uncommon Wrath

세상을 기독교화 하고자하는 개념과 프로젝트에 치명적인 것은, 하나님을 받아들이지 않는 세상은 하나님의 은혜의 대상이 아니라는 사실입니다.

Fatal to the notion and project of Christianizing the world is the truth that the world of the ungodly is not the object of the grace of God.

그 뿐 아니라 하나님을 받아들이지 않는 사람들의 세상은 자신들의 삶을 향상 시키고 이끌어나가는 힘으로서의 하나님의 은혜를 즐거워하지 않는다는 것입니다.

Nor does the world of ungodly men and women enjoy a grace of God that is a power improving and directing their lives.

세상을 기독교화 하는 프로젝트의 토대가 되는 일반은혜 이론은 잘못된 교리입니다.

The theory of common grace, which is fundamental to the project of Christianizing the world, is false doctrine.

은혜는 누군가에 대한 신성한 호의로서, 호의적인 태도를 말합니다.

Grace is divine favor towards someone—a favorable attitude.

하나님께서는 그리스도의 바깥에 있는 불신자와 우상숭배자에게 호의적인 태도를 갖지는 않습니다.

God does not have an attitude of favor towards unbelievers and idolaters, who are outside of Jesus Christ.

반대로 하나님께서는 "모든 사악한 행위를 하는 자들을 미워"하십니다.(시5:5)

On the contrary, God “hates all workers of iniquity”(Psalm 5: 5).

하나님께서는 하나님을 받아들이지 않는 문화를 어떤 비구원적 은혜로 움직이지 시지는 않습니다.

God does not drive the culture of the ungodly by some non-saving grace.

그보다는 "하나님의 진노가 불의로 진리를 막는 사람들의 모든 경건하지 않음과 불의에 대하여 하늘로부터 나타납니다."(롬1:18)
Rather, “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness”(Rom. 1: 18).

이러한 평범하지 않은 진노로, 그들에게 하나님 나라의 형태로서의 외적인 기독교 사회를 만들도록 영향을 주는 것은 커녕, 하나님께서는 그들에게 상실한 마음대로 내어버려 두심으로서, 합당치 못한 일을 하게 하셨으며, 그들의 나라를 좀 더 완전하고 분명하게 악마의 나라로 드러내셨습니다.

In this uncommon wrath, so far from influencing them to create an outwardly Christian civilization, a form of the kingdom of God, God gives them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient (Rom. 1: 28), thus manifesting their kingdom more fully and clearly as the kingdom of the devil.

세상에 심판이 임박하였습니다.

Judgment is impending over the world!

세상과 하나가 되어 세상의 부도덕함을 기획하고, 실행하며, 발전시킨 모든 이들은 멸망의 날에 하나님의 심판으로 영원히 멸망할 것입니다.

And all those who are one with the world in implementing, exercising, and developing the world’s ungodliness will perish eternally in the divine judgment when it falls.

"큰 성 바벨론"을 건설하는데 바쁜 이들 모두는 멸망과 함께 붕괴될 것이며, 멸망 될 것입니다(계18:2).

All those who have been busy building “Babylon the great”must perish in its fall, and fall it will (Rev. 18: 2).

"거기서 나와라"

“Come Out of Her”

현재 건설하고 있는 세상의 큰 나라에 관한 하나님의 요구하심은 "그것을 기독교화하라! 기독교화하라!"는 것이 아니고, "내 백성아, 거기서 나와 그의 죄에 참여하지 말고 그가 받을 재앙들을 받지 말라"(계18:4)는 것입니다.

The call of God with regard to the great kingdom of the world now abuilding is not, “Christianize it! Christianize it!” but , “Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues” (Rev. 18: 4).

개신개혁의 젊은이들에 하시는 하나님의 요구하심은 "세상을 기독교화 하라"는 유혹하는 말을 거부하라는 것입니다,

The call of God to Protestant Reformed young people is the opposite of the siren-song, “Christianize the world.”

하나님의 부르심은, "세상과 분리되는 것입니다.하나님에 대한 세상의 반역과 타락으로 너희 자신들을 더럽히지 마세요!세상을 미워하세요! 세상을 대적하세요! 거룩하지 않은 세상 한 가운데에서 거룩하신 하나님의 대행자로서, 세상이 미워하는 것을 기꺼이 참는 것입니다!"

The call of God is, “Separate from the world!

Do not defile yourself with the world’s rebellion against God and filth! Hate the world! Oppose the world! Willingly endure the world’s hatred of you, as representatives of the holy God in the midst of the unholy world!”

이러한 (구원의) 소리를 들을 수 있는 것은, 우리들의 영적인 교회의 아버지와 어머니들이 1924년 기독교개혁교회 (CRC)로부터 축출된 결과를 가져온 일반은혜에 대항하여 맞섰기 때문입니다.

That you might hear this (saving) call, our spiritual and ecclesiastical fathers and mothers took the stand against common grace that resulted in their expulsion from the Christian Reformed Church in 1924.

그러나 이것은 비개혁주의 관점이며 재세례파의 그리스도임의 삶을 실천하는, 세상에서의 도피에 해당되는 것은 아닙니까?

But does this not amount to the error of world-flight— the unreformed view and practice of the Christian life of the Anabaptists?

전혀 아닙니다!

Not at all!

고의가 아니라면, 이러한 비난은 사실무근입니다.

The charge is groundless, if not malicious.

그리고 이것은 이번 시리즈의 다음 논제가 될 것입니다.

And this will be the content of the next article in this series.
